Who is talking? Tell us your story!

Cinecita is a documentary film studio on wheels. Traveling by bus, Cinecita will journey from the tropical coasts of the Pacific up to the barren Altiplano of Lake Titicaca, from Quito to El Alto, to record the everyday lives of young girls and women who live in the villages and barrios along the way.

How does one tell a story efectively? Which narrative style should you use? What kinds of stories exist in the South American Andes? What is the life of a young woman living in the countryside like in comparison to someone living in the barrios of Lima or El Alto? What are their dreams and visions, and how do they see their future?

And most important of all: how do you tell your story with images? Which narrative form is appropriate for which pictures? Cinecita will hold workshops with local residents to delve deeper into these questions.

Beside the development, design, and realization of their story, the girls and women will learn how to handle a camera and how to edit film. At the end of every workshop there will be an open screening at the village square, where the directors will present their work to the community.

They will be guided along every step of the way, from the initial idea through the finished mini-documentary, following a curriculum developed by experienced professionals from El Alto, Bolivia and Berlin, Germany.
